Stagecoach Trail

Mileage: about 3.8 miles round tripHike Rating: Easy
Change in elevation: about + 380 feet Best time to hike: anytime

Parking:

At the beach parking area at Moore’s Pond (the intersection of Wendell Road and South Holden Road).

Description:

Because this simple out and back hike follows the original Holden Road, the trail is usually wide enough to walk two abreast. And if you hike during the summer, you can finish the day with a dip in Moore’s Pond.

Proceed east on South Holden Road; Moore’s Pond will be on your left. In about 0.3 miles, the pavement ends. Continue straight on the unpaved road. In about 0.1 miles, go right onto the unmarked trail and then immediately go left and up a small hill.

Until you reach the cemetery, the trail will steadily but very gradually incline. At times, you will pass through private lands; be sure to stay on the trail. As you walk along, look down for cellar holes on the sides of the trails and look up for signs posted on the trees that read “Warwick Old Stagecoach Trail” and other smaller signs with sketches of a stagecoach.

At about 1.5 miles, go right at the tee stop and note the substantial cellar hole on your immediate right. At about 1.9 miles, you have reached the end of the trail; you will see a house on your left and the cemetery in front of you. Turn around and proceed back down the way you came.
