Meeting minutes – Moores Pond Beach Committee
September 10, 2024

  • Meeting called to order by D. Ellis 6:07pm
  • In attendance: J. Barber, P. Bellemare, A. Carman, M. Connelly, D. Ellis, D. Farley, K. Tuttle-Farley, M. Fellows
  • Review of August meeting minutes. It was indicated to add that P. Bellemare is looking into how to go about completing the sanitation survey. Otherwise minutes approved.
  • Treasurer’s Report: Amount of funds unchanged: $922.82. There were no donations at the boat parade. K. Tuttle-Connelly will endeavor to get a formal report from the Town regarding MPBC funds.
  • Water testing: P. Bellemare tested the water yesterday, 9/9/24; this will be the last test of the season. August test results were very good! Overall the water quality of the pond has been good the entire season. Patty will prepare the 27-page report to the State that summarizes the test results for the entire season. We currently have a tier 3 variance, that means only monthly water testing is required instead of more frequently. We need to keep tier 3 status! Completing the Sanitation Survey will maintain this status. Moores pond beach closed only once; that was after hurricane Irene.
  • Town website: J. Barber continues to work on the inclusion of the MPBC on the Town’s website. He is working with John Paganetti, Town Clerk. Pictures of the boat parade will be sent over to be included on the website. Committee members are listed on the website, also Committee officers and their contact information.
  • Boat parade recap: Overall, this event was a success. Eight boats participated. The viewing crowd was sparse, and it was speculated that because there was no muster this time, folks just went home after the morning events. Perhaps we could coordinate with the Old Home Days Committee, and time the parade to be consecutive with other events. Will probably do it again next year, and maybe add an ice cream truck, music or a sand castle contest. The Committee will get the word out more for this event.
  • Sanitation Survey: P. Bellemare reached out to Jean Haskell about how to complete this survey, and was told it was done by a friend of Dave Shepardson. She also called Philip Legier who did the last survey and left a message. An internet search for Registered Sanitarians was done also. Patty also talked to Michael Bettie from the Public Health Department who will get a name of someone to contact.
  • Tree Removal: M. Connelly has reported that the Tree Warden is primarily responsible for shade trees, and not the evergreen that we want removed. He will speak to Matt at the Highway Department who may cut it down and take the wood away. If the Utility company, who comes to the area four times per year, may also take the tree but will nottake the wood away. Their next time in town is at the end of October. Hopefully the Highway Department till take the tree.
  • Committee members 2025: Kelly Chappel-Farley, Matt Connolly and Ann Carman’s 3 year terms end 2024. Matt Connelly has renewed for another 3-year term and will expire 2027. Kelly Chappel-Farley and Ann Carman will notbe returning for another term. The group will look for new members for the next season.
  • Future meetings: the 2025 season will commence with the first meeting Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 6:00pm. The committee will meet at the Town Hall.
  • Beach news: The DEP collected some mud to determine what bugs could be found. The buoy is placed in the deepest part of the pond to determine the oxygen level of the water.
  • Meeting adjourned 6:38pm

Respectfully submitted,
Ann Carman, Secretary MPBC
