Meeting minutes – Moores Pond Beach Committee
8/13/2024

  • Call to order 6:06pm by D. Ellis. In Attendance: D. Ellis, J. Barber, D. Farley, K. Tuttle-Connelly,P. Bellemare, A. Carman
  • Minutes of July meeting read and amended to add M. Fellows to meeting attendance.
  • K. Tuttle-Connelly reported no changes in treasury; $922.82.
  • P. Bellemare reported water test collection 8/12/24. While delivering the sample to the lab, they reported they had been paid twice for the testing service. Patty reported this to David Young, who directed the duplicate funds be allocated to the August testing.
  • Jim Barber completed the Ethics training! Kathy Tuttle-Connelly will do this.
  • The Boat Parade flyers are in mailboxes, and one is posted on the Kiosk. Participants will gather in their boats near the beach and do a pond circuit. Is there someone available to receive registrations and take ballots? Gloria, a Moores Pond neighbor, will take pictures. Dan’s daughter may drive C. Michael’s boat.
  • The big pine tree at the beach was discussed: Does the group think the stump should be cut close to the ground or a flat stump? The Committee agreed that the safest and fastest way is preferred, what is left over doesn’t matter. A swimmer at the beach, Louis Griffith, has volunteered to help with the tree. Matt Connelly will speak to the Tree Warden regarding this.
  • J. Barber has been working with John Paginetti, the Town Web master, on the inclusion of the Beach Committee on the webpage. MPBC is included in the dropdown menu, although many updates are needed, including the Committee members names and tenures. It seems there is a new and an old website, and Jim is recommending removing the old one. Jim and John will meet 8/14. Some things the Committee suggested being on the MPBC link: Co-chairs names and phone numbers, water quality test results and pictures. Address is warwickma.org
  • Daniel.Davis@mass.gov is doing a pond study and has put a buoy in the water.
  • D. Ellis did some research regarding the Sanitation Survey. The permit to operate a bathing beach needs to be renewed in 2026, so work should begin next year. We must find out who will perform the survey, do we need to do survey, how much does it cost and who pays?
  • Various wildlife sightings were discussed including a grey fox!
  • Next meeting Tuesday, September 10, 6:00pm at the beach
  • Meeting adjourned 6:36pm

Respectfully submitted,
Ann Carman, Secretary MPBC
