Moores Pond Beach Committee Minutes for Meeting
Tuesday, April 11, 2023, 6:00 pm, Town Beach
Chair Michaels called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm.
Present members: P. Bellemare, A. Carman, D. Ellis, J. Haskell, C. Michaels, K. Tuttle-Connelly.
Absent members: M. Connelly, and S. Pike who is moving and has recently resigned.
- Michaels welcomed (returning) member Diane Ellis, who also completed her Conflict of Interest form. Secretary Haskell handed out 2023 manual updates.
- The draft minutes of the September 20, 2022 meeting, were reviewed and approved.
- Treasurer Tuttle-Connelly reported no expenses since September; fund has $1005. 71.
- Water Tester Pat Bellemare will begin testing a week before Memorial Day and confirm the fees with EAi Labs.
- Old business.
a. Michaels reported about the delay in the large pine removal that was approved by Selectboard at meeting in September 2022 and scheduled for winter. The Town Coordinator is arranging eventual removal by crane, with trimming occurring soon. The Committee agreed that any beach renovation or picnic table cleaning must wait until the tree is removed.
b. Michaels reported that the Town Beach Land Management Plan was approved at a Selectboard meeting in October, 2022. The official copy is now in committee manuals and requires reviewing every five years.
c. Michaels reported that our Beach Operator’s Permit for seasons 2023 and 2024, was approved by BOH in November, 2022. Haskell said water testing funds of $700/year will remain in the BOH budget.
d. Michaels reported that the new Beach Rules signs are on the kiosk, along with a new Fish Advisory sign. The rake, small trash basket, and goose poop can with scooper are at the kiosk. Haskell suggested a small green/white Town Beach Parking sign be posted on a tree at the roadside parking area on Wendell Road, to complete its official dedication.
e. Haskell completed our 2022 Annual Report to Town, circulated it to members, and submitted it to the Town in March.
f. Michaels and the committee discussed recruiting one new member for a three-year term, and one new member for a two-year term to replace the resigning Pike. - New business.
a. Michaels suggested Saturday 9:00 am May 20th for the Beach Spring Cleanup and the committee agreed. A more serious Beach renovation (sand, and log barrier replacement) awaits pine removal.
b. Michaels will submit a Newsletter article for May, due April 20th.
c. Several members volunteered for beach grooming weekly assignments; to be coordinated by Bellemare.
d. Michaels opened the discussion about season project suggestions. Michaels will explore updating the MPBC page on the Town Website and research possible Town ownership of the dam. Haskell reported two communications from Mary Williamson of the Conservation Commission regarding Lot#28, 24 acres of unbuildable wetland north of the Pond, now privately owned. The ConCom is researching the possibility of Town ownership. The committee agreed to support the ConCom’s efforts. Haskell will send info she has to Kathy Tuttle-Connelly, who
volunteered to be the committee’s contact.
e. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 3, 6 pm and will include event planning, tentatively including a Corregatta. Michaels will contact the School Committee about boatbuilding and racing as an educational project.
f. Pond news included eagle, heron, and merganser sightings. Brook trout were stocked April 9. - There was no further business; the meeting adjourned at 6:57pm.
