Description:
This easy clockwise hike around a wetland includes a view of the entire pond, many sections of mountain laurel, and access to the “Indian Cave”.
Proceed south on Flagg Road with the pond on your right. Cross the bridge and go up a hill. Go right (west) almost immediately, keeping the pond on your right. ( At about 0.3 miles, you may want to take a short spur to your right which leads to the swamp and some nice views, including a few old beaver lodges). At about 0.4 miles, when the trail narrows and bears slightly right, you will encounter the first of several wet and muddy sections. Don’t let this deter you because soon after, you will pass through the first of many sections of abundant mountain laurel which is green year-round. At about 1.1 miles, you will see the first light blue rectangular blazes which you will follow for the rest of the hike. The trail turns right (north) several times before going straight. (At about 1.2 miles, two trees painted in blue with the letter “I” point upward and left to a short spur to the Indian Cave). As you proceed east for the rest of the hike, you will spot the wetlands again through the trees at about 1.4 miles. At about 1.9 miles, proceed right (south) to return to Flagg Road. Go right on Flagg Road for about 0.1 miles back to where you parked.
