Warwick Buildings and Energy Committee March 6, 2025
Present: Janice Kurkoski (Chair), Jack Cadwell, Dan Dibble, Mary Humphries, Jared Kain-Woods, Emily Rosen, and Steve Kurkoski
Meeting opened: 6:04 p.m.
The minutes from our last meeting on February 18, 2025, were accepted as written.
ANNOUNCEMENTS & REPORTS:
- Chris Mason and Jared (HERS rater with Powerhouse) are both available to come to an info event in April.
- Dan reported on his meeting with Police Chief Shoemaker RE the vehicle format. Chief Shoemaker and the Highway Commission can support the “Vehicle Zero Emission First Policy.” We’re looking for a commitment letter from the selectboard and the WCS before the end of the month. We’re working towards Decarbonization Roadmap Assistance.
- We got the grant worth $143 for mini splits at the library & WCS & domestic hot water heat pumps at WCS. That brings the GC grant total to $735k from the State so far. Tracey Stiles will be Clerk of the Works for the mini-splits and other projects. The Annual Meeting is on May 5th. The Super Stretch Code and vehicle policy need to be voted on at that meeting, per DY.
Topics for Discussion
- Warwick Inn Tech Help: DY suggested that the WBEC provide “Energy Help Hours” on Thursday mornings at the Inn, but this committee agreed with SK that we can’t cover those hours.
- “Climate Leader” Project: SK summarized a timeline to prepare for Town Hall meeting. We also need a one-page report that summarizes what the WBEC has been up to for the last year. ER volunteered to put it on Google Docs for editing. Discussion of “aiming toward resilience” which is an appealing approach; programs that create resilience. JKW offered to write a few paragraphs about the Specialized Stretch Code (SSC) to help educate the Town. He also offered to field questions at the presentation regarding energy codes and other important topics. It would be helpful to prepare a pamphlet on the SSC to hand out during the styrofoam recycling project in April at the Transfer Station.
- Styrofoam Recycling: We have gotten approval for three hours each Saturday in April at the Transfer Station and need to have adequate staffing.
- Green Corner: Discussion of various topics including ADUs. (Note: SSC does not affect ADUs.) We could use the styrofoam recycling flier for the April GC or possibly information on the SSC.
Next meeting: SK will send out a doodle poll to determine the next meeting date which will be during the week of 3/16.
Meeting adjourned at 7:54 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Humphries
